Why a Steady Tone Helps (and Why It Isn't Magic)

Every pattern in RelaxColors can play a single steady tone at low volume. People ask what it’s tuned to.

Nothing. It’s just a tone.

What it actually does

It works the way a fan or a white noise machine works: it raises the noise floor slightly, so sudden sounds — a door, a car, a creaking floor — don’t cut through as sharply. And it gives your hearing something constant to rest on instead of tracking every small change in the room.

That’s a real effect. It’s also an unremarkable one, and we’d rather say so.

About “healing frequencies”

You’ll find a lot of apps advertising specific frequencies — 528 Hz, 432 Hz, 396 Hz — described as solfeggio tones with particular effects on the body or mind.

That set of numbers was devised in the 1970s through a numerological reading of biblical text. There’s no evidence that these specific frequencies do anything specific.

Our earlier versions used that language too. We removed it, because a claim that falls apart the moment someone searches for it costs more trust than it ever earned.

Use it or don’t

The speaker button mutes the tone instantly, and the session works exactly as well in silence. Some people find a constant tone soothing; others find it another thing demanding attention.
